On Wednesday 24 April from 12 noon to 1:30 pm, come hear dissertation presentations from Xizi Ru (Communication) and Thiam Huat Kam (Media Studies):
Xizi Ru's research interests center around information and communication technologies (ICTs), social media, social influence, social networks, and mental health. She is particularly interested in how new ICTs, such as social media, influence individuals and organizations in disseminating and seeking information; how social media influences people's mental health; and the mechanism of social influence in social media. Her advisor is Dr. Matthew Weber.
Thiam Huat Kam's research examines the intersection between capitalism, labor, and effects, through a focus on transmedia fandom in Japan. He is the co-editor of Debating Otaku in Contemporary Japan: Historical Perspectives and New Horizons (Bloomsbury, 2015). His advisor is Dr Jack Bratich.
