Doris Gebel retired after over 40 years of work as children’s librarian and is a part-time lecturer teaching “Knowledge Organization and Access for School Librarians” since 2019. She has been a guest lecturer for the Special Topics:International K-12 Books course since 2014 and, in 2019, assisted in the creation of the International Youth Literature Collection at the Alexander Library. She continues to work developing and promoting the collection through the LibGuide and the annual International Children’s Book Day Celebration. She is a past president and longtime member of USBBY, the United States section of the International Board on Books for Young People, editor of Crossing Boundaries with Children’s Books (Scarecrow Press, 2006). She has served on several award committees including the 2006 Newbery, several Batchelder, Green Earth Book, the Outstanding International Books Award and the Odyssey Award. She is the recipient of the 2024 Louise Seaman Bechtel Fellowship.
