Congratulations to all the contributors to the fall 2022 edition of Kairos, the JMS magazine of top undergraduate work!
THE POVERTY CHRONICLES focuses on struggles to survive, during a period when financial hardship deepened for many, even as others prospered. We look at three aspects of poverty: Esther Lee reports on the quandary of Black homeowners who want to help keep their neighborhoods Black, but can’t find other Black families to sell to; Sukanya Puthur looks into the struggles of commuting students forced to curtail activities due to higher gas prices; and Elena Suiliashvili probes into the plight of rural residents of the former Soviet republic of Georgia, where desperation has forced some into theft.
Steve Miller’s TV Reporting class student Taylor Carter developed an excellent video piece on our new way of giving campus tours. And six of Nat Clymer’s Photojournalism students produced self-portraits, and accompanying essays, about their experiences during this strange and challenging time.
