Serita Sargent is a Ph.D. student in Library and Information Science. They obtained their bachelor's in Computer Engineering at New York University & before the Ph.D. program a Software Engineer for three years at Verizon. Their research will surround data/tech ethics including AI and algorithmic bias focusing on AI and everyday surveillance technologies. They will look at how these technologies amplify & reinforce systemic oppression, as well as how they create new ones for marginalized communities.
